The Cluntergate Centre
Renovation And Remodelling Works To Community Centre
A tired former Council owned and operated Community Centre in the desirable village of Horbury, was given to Horbury Community Centre Trust a small charitable organisation in 2015 with an aim to modernise the centre and improve the facilities that can be offered to existing and a new diverse range of building users.
As part of this modernisation Architecture 1B were approached to provide a full service to design and administer the contract onsite of the £200,000 extensive renovation and remodelling works, with grants from Biffa Award, WREN, George Martin Trust, Garfield Weston, Awards for All (Big Lottery) and Horbury Common Lands Trust.
Our design created a new sharp modern exterior, consolidating the various external finishes with bright white render, new anthracite windows and gutters, and a new roof. Internally, the hall facilities were greatly improved to cater for events, with a new movable stage and associated sound and lighting rigs, new integrated bar /café facilities, and opening up the ceiling to reveal the impressive vaulted ceiling and hidden rooflights bright and airy main hall. The former maze-like entrance was relocated to a prominent corner, creating a welcoming glazed entrance that feeds directly into the new modern relaxed café reception area.
